About Farm in the Garden Camp
| ||||||
Camp Philosophy | ||||||
Berkshire Botanical Garden has designed a program that will nurture the seeds of Earth stewardship for young and old alike, while connecting children to our food system, our environment, and to one another. The camp provides time, space, and guidance for children to do meaningful work and play in a caring, garden community. The camp offers the inherent pleasure and personal agency that comes from making things by hand. We will make cheese, collect eggs, and harvest and grind wheat berries before baking a quiche, and harvest dill to press carefully into goat cheese rounds. Our work at the garden will be to care for the plants and animals that sustain us and to make good use of the harvest. At Farm in the Garden Camp, participants are invited to be a part of a community of children, grown-ups, plants and animals that engage one another through care, understanding, interaction, and sustenance.
